Anyone who owns a spa knows how expensive they can be to run! They’re like a secondary hot water system—but without the same level of insulation, making them even less efficient. The good news? CATCH Control can help you take control of your spa’s energy use, reduce costs, and maximise solar self-consumption!
How Spas Differ from Standard Hot Water Systems.
Unlike electric hot water tanks, spas need pumps to circulate water when heating. This means that you cannot isolate the element for control. Simply switching on the heating element won’t automatically activate the pumps, So this is a job for CATCH Control and Green CATCH is NOT recommended in this application.
Key Setup Considerations
🔹 Most modern spas plug into a 15A power point – CATCH Control operates at the circuit level, meaning it will turn everything on or off on that circuit. If other appliances share the circuit, they’ll also be affected. You may need to reconfigure circuits so only the spa is controlled.
🔹 Power Cycling & Timer Accuracy – Since CATCH Control turns the spa circuit on and off, internal spa clocks may gradually lose accuracy. To keep things running smoothly, we recommend a 24-hour heating cycle (or two 12-hour cycles) to prevent temperature inconsistencies.
🔹 Minimum run times, to protect the internal pumps and circuitry we recommend settings up the minimum run time for at least 20 minutes. This means that each time the minimum on threshold is met for the desired time, the Spa will run for a minimum of 20 minutes to stop the spa cutting in and out.
🔹 Manual Control for Flexibility – Want to use your spa outside of the scheduled heating cycle? Just activate the circuit via the CATCH Control app for on-demand heating!
