Cut Hot Water Energy Use
by Up to 95%
Feed- in Tariffs are Still Falling
With the start of the new financial year, you've probably received your new energy plan rates, and noticed that your feed in tariff has dropped, yet again. With electricity rates staying high, it's more important than ever for you to use the energy your solar system produces.
People may have you believe 'solar isn't worth it' any more due to low feed- in tariffs. The real issue isn't the tariffs themselves but relying too much on sending excess solar power back to the grid.
Self-consumption is crucial for making your solar system profitable and keeping your bills low. By using the energy you produce to power your home, you'll save more money than by selling it back to the grid.
What Does it Mean for You?
The difference between exporting your energy and consuming it can be as much as $0.34 per kWh.
Shifting your hot water load with Green CATCH can save you as much as $1,000 per year.

What is Green CATCH?
Green CATCH is a hot water diverter designed to optimise your hot water heating cycle to align with your solar system. Green CATCH intuitively sends precise amounts of surplus solar to your standard electric hot water system. Allowing you to move away from traditional off-peak and offset 90-95% of your hot water usage from mains power.
Green CATCH uses advanced algorithms to ensure the best possible outcome, even when there isn't enough solar energy available. With Green CATCH, you can increase your self consumption by 30 - 40%, reducing costs and enjoy a more efficient and eco-friendly system.
How It Works:
Green CATCH: is installed in your meter box by a licensed electrician. The device features three inputs to connect your mains power, hot water system, and off-peak meter (some exclusions apply). If an off-peak meter is not connected, this terminal will be left empty, and Green CATCH will automatically recognise that boosting from off-peak is not available. Additionally, a Current Transformer (CT) is placed on your mains to measure the exported solar energy, ensuring precise control and efficient energy management.
Seamless Integration: Green CATCH works with your existing solar system and hot water unit, regardless of the brands. We do not interact with the inverter, so do not need to integrate with it. Please note Green CATCH is ONLY recommended for resistive loads, so standard electric hot water systems. We DO NOT recommend Green CATCH to be used with heat pumps.
Rapid Response: The Current Transformer (CT) is used to measure the power flow to and from your property in real-time. Green CATCH reads this information every 100 milliseconds ensuring precise and immediate adjustments to your system.
Diversion: When Green CATCH detects a minimum of 500 watts of surplus energy being exported to the grid, it activates your hot water system. Instead of sending that surplus energy back to the grid, Green CATCH diverts precisely this amount of energy to heat your hot water tank and does not draw from the grid in this process.
Efficient Energy Use: When your hot water system reaches cut off temperature, Green CATCH will no longer try to send energy to the tank and any surplus will be sent to the grid as per normal.
Intelligent Algorithms: Green CATCH intelligently boosts your hot water system using off-peak energy only when necessary. By leveraging advanced algorithms, it ensures the most efficient use of energy, providing you with consistent hot water while maximising savings. This smart boosting strategy guarantees optimal performance even during periods of low solar production, or for families that use more than a tank of hot water a day, ensuring you always have hot water when you need it.
Save on Hot Water Heating Costs with Green CATCH
Save on Hot Water Heating with Green CATCH
With the rising cost of living, saving every dollar matters.
The average family of four uses 8-10 kWh per day to heat their hot water.
With recent electricity price increases, this can cost as much as $0.25 per kWh, adding up to $2.50 per day.
This means the average family of four could be paying over $700 every year just to heat their hot water.
Green CATCH helps you reduce these costs by efficiently using your solar energy, saving you money and making your home more eco-friendly.
Jo M. Brooms Head
"At first we didn't understand the importance of offsetting our hot water usage, I guess we thought it would 'magically' be taken care of with the solar. It wasn't until we got our first bill after the solar was installed that we realised just how much our hot water was costing us. It worked out to be about $170 a quarter!
I found out about Green CATCH on a solar forum and reached out, they were friendly and helpful and answered all my questions.
Once the Green CATCH was installed we quickly saw the savings, we have the unit in "Solar Only" and haven't paid a cent for our hot water since!"

Working with your System.
One of the key advantages of Green CATCH is its flexibility. Green CATCH can be used with any inverter on the market. Installed inside your meter box, it detects surplus solar energy and uses this energy to heat your hot water.
When you have solar panels, the energy they generate will first offset your household usage. Green CATCH then precisely diverts any surplus solar power to your electric hot water tank. This ensures that you maximise your self-consumption of your solar and reduce your reliance on grid electricity.
Even though Green CATCH doesn't have its own monitoring capabilities, you can easily identify Green CATCH working on the native inverters monitoring platform. Below are examples showing how Green CATCH appears in different monitoring apps.
In these apps, you'll notice that household consumption closely follows solar production, this is Green CATCH working. When your hot water system reaches its cutoff temperature (thermostat opens), the household load drops suddenly, and the surplus energy is then exported to the grid. These changes indicate that Green CATCH is effectively maximising your solar production and reducing your energy costs.
By monitoring these patterns, you can clearly see Green CATCH at work, helping you make the most of your solar energy and save on electricity bills, no matter which monitoring platform you use.
In these graphs you can see how the household consumption mirrors solar production.
Green CATCH detects when you are exporting and sends this energy to your hot water system.
Once the hot water system reaches cut off temperature you can see a sudden drop in consumption and a shift to export.
This is a clear sign that Green CATCH has diverted energy to your hot water system.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if there isn't enough solar to heat my hot water?
Green CATCH's goal is to reach thermostatic cut-off on your hot water tank. There are a number of algorithms built into Green's operations as a fall back if cut-off is missed during the day. How the device operates is dependent on what setting the device is in. You can read more on our user guide here.
I don't have Off- Peak will Green CATCH still work for me?
Yes, if no Off- Peak is hard wired into the device, Green will know that Off- Peak is not available instead any boosting if required will occur between 11pm - 3am.
Does Green CATCH work with a Dual Element?
Green CATCH does not have the ability to determine if it is working with the top or bottom element, due to this it will limit the overall efficiency of the device. For this reason we recommend disconnecting the top element, to allow Green CATCH to have full control
Does Green CATCH work with batteries?
Yes, Green CATCH works great with batteries but it does require a slightly different installation method. If you add Batteries after your Solar and Green CATCH are installed, please make sure these adjustments are made to the device. Green CATCH Installation with Batteries
Does Green CATCH work on 3phase sites?
Although Green CATCH is a single phase device, this stop it working on 3phase sites. This just means Green CATCH is only capable of monitoring one of the 3-phases, so yes it will work but not as effectively as it could. CATCH will be seeing one third of the export. For this reason we recommend a minimum 9kW's for 3phase sites.
We do not recommend Green CATCH on 3phase Hybrid sites.
Who can install Green CATCH?
Any licensed electrician can install Green CATCH, we offer full training and support for new and existing installers.
What is the difference between Green CATCH and a Timer?
Green CATCH is a smart hot water diverter that uses real-time data and advanced algorithms to optimise energy usage. It detects surplus solar energy and diverts it to your hot water system, maximizing solar power use and reducing reliance on grid electricity. Only calling on the grid when needed. In contrast, a timer simply turns your hot water system on and off at preset times, without considering of household loads or solar production. This can lead to higher energy costs and less efficient use of solar power.
How can I tell if Green CATCH is working?
Even through Green CATCH does not have any monitoring, you can still determine it is working by your normal consumption monitoring graphs. Check the Working with your System to see how to determine if Green CATCH is working. If you have a 3phase site, your graphs will only show your consumption as 1/3 of the consumption, due to it only monitoring one phase.
